From our headquarters in Brooklyn, NY, Mindful Sports offers after-school programs and summer camps for children. The Brooklyn Moose is our travel sports program.
Whether your child is playing a sport for the first time or is competing at a travel or showcase level, Mindful Sports is a great way for them to learn valuable emotional regulation skills and have a ton of fun!
Meet the Team

Dr. Sam Faeder
Founder/Managing Director
Sam (he/him) is the Managing Director of Mindful Sports. Sam grew up in Manhattan, playing baseball for Stuyvesant High School. He played college baseball for Swarthmore and professionally in Europe and Australia from 2007-2010.
Sam holds a PhD (2022) in Psychology. His research explores how mindfulness training affects stress perception in preadolescent children playing sports. He has run youth sports programs and summer camps professionally for fifteen years. Sam is an avid Knicks and Yankees fan and loves Korean food!

Jas Christopher
Program Coordinator
Jas (she/her) is a Program Coordinator at Mindful Sports. Jasmine, preferably known as Jas, was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. She loves writing and playing sports, especially football and soccer. She played soccer for four years in high school and was awarded the New Era Pinstripe Bowl 2019 MVP Scholar Athlete before continuing to play in college.
After graduating with her B.A. in Psychology, her main goal was to inspire kids and teach them how to be emotionally intelligent through the art of creativity. As Jas believes herself to be a kid at heart, she puts herself in the shoes of each and every child in order to become the best role model possible. In her free time, she can usually be found making music, writing poetry, drawing, or eating.

Sirr White
Program Coordinator
Sirr (He/Him) is a Program Coordinator at Mindful Sports. Sirr was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He loves sports such as Basketball,Football and Baseball. Sirr was a 4 year captain for his high-school basketball team and Furthered his career at Morgan State University.
Sirr is now pursuing his degree in Health Communication. Sirr is dedicated to the growth and leadership of the younger generations to come. Sirr is an avid Knicks, Ravens and Yankees fan. In his free time you can catch Sirr going to a sports event, hanging out with friends, or shopping

Wyatt Cory
Associate Program Coordinator
Wyatt (they/them) is an Associate Program Coordinator at Mindful Sports. Originally from Rhode Island, Wyatt grew up playing soccer, baseball, basketball, and track. They continued playing soccer at Chatham University in Pittsburgh PA, where they studied journalism and communications.
Outside of school, Wyatt created Crust Magazine, an art and skateboarding publication. They self published five issues and collaborated with Exposure Skate, Camp Woodward, and The Worble. During their free time, they enjoy park rollerskating, illustrating, drag, and photography.

Grant Greer
Associate Program Coordinator
Grant Greer (he/him) is an Associate Program Coordinator at Mindful Sports. Grant grew up internationally in Asia and has lived in Brooklyn the past two years. As a three-sport high school athlete, Grant gained ample experience being a team member in a culturally diverse environment. He also took on leadership early when became captain of his high school basketball and volleyball teams. Drawing from his own experiences with anxiety and stress, Grant is devoted to teaching positive mental and physical health habits to help kids succeed both on and off the field. He is currently studying breathing techniques and emotional stabilization tactics through the Institute of Core Energetics. In his free time, Grant can be found playing pickup basketball with friends, listening to music, writing, meditating, and watching sports!

Amber Phillips
Administrative Operations Coordinator
Amber (she/her) is the Administrative Operations Coordinator at Mindful Sports. Amber was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, playing volleyball and basketball at Millennium Brooklyn High School. She continued playing volleyball at St. Francis College Brooklyn, where she graduated with her B.A. in Psychology. She gained valuable teamwork and leadership skills throughout her time playing sports.
Amber has always loved working with kids. During her prior experience as a club and high school volleyball coach, she had incorporated mindfulness techniques into her coaching after using these techniques herself while playing volleyball. She is passionate about children feeling safe in any space they enter. In her free time, Amber enjoys baking, going to the movies, listening to records, and hanging out with her friends.

Samantha Nunez
Samantha (she/her) is a Site Leader/Lead Coach at Mindful Sports and the Assistant Coach of Brooklyn Moose 8U Baseball. Originally from Connecticut, Samantha has always grown up playing sports, most notably softball. At Westbrook High School, she was a dual captain of both the field hockey team and the softball team. She is continuing her studies in social studies education and has found her passion in social-emotional awareness, and emphasizing the values of working as a team. She is committed to having every child feel welcome and comfortable in their environment. In her free time she can be found at any Mets or Knicks sporting events in the city.

Jason Ortiz
Jason Ortiz (he/him) is a Site Leader / Lead Coach at Mindful Sports. Jason is the Head Coach for Brooklyn Moose 8U Baseball, and the Co-Leader of the Brooklyn Moose Baseball Winter Training.
Baseball has always been more than a game to Jason. As his outlet growing up in foster care, baseball became a critical foundation of meaning and purpose. After playing at Erasmus High, KBCC, and LIU Brooklyn, Jason began coaching travel baseball in Manhattan in 2019, and has worked with 7U-10U teams. When Jason isn’t coaching, he’s cheering on the Yankees, enjoying the park with my wife and daughter, or organizing pick up whiffle ball games with kids in my neighborhood on the LES.
Mindful Sports believes in the importance of teaching mindfulness and self-regulation while helping kids have fun and learn how to play sports. Mindfulness practice is a research-proven method of helping children learn to manage stress and anxiety, improve focus, and increase their overall resilience. Teaching mindfulness through sports helps children:
Mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment, without judgment, and the continuous return to that moment. Breathing and awareness exercises help children learn to be okay with how they feel. Mindfulness can help with stress, fear, and anxiety. Mindful skills can also improve focus and strengthen overall resilience. Research on children’s mindfulness on and off the field of play shows positive and promising results.
